Set on a heavy flared base with rubber grip feet for stability, the blender offers three powerful speeds with an optional pulse function, and a built-in ice crushing function that alternates between on and off for added efficiency. The dial control and speed gauge are easy to use--though the grip is made of a surprisingly light plastic for the heft of the rest of the machine. The Metropolis' jar is formed from heavy-duty glass, marked with metric and imperial measurements, and fitted with a smooth arched handle. Designed to resist scratching and discoloration, the jar holds up to 50 ounces at a time. It stands stably on the countertop, pours smoothly from its tapered spout, and drops into place on the base-no need for twisting it into position. A clever feeding tray nestles into the jar's removable lid, allowing for the tidy addition of ingredients while the machine is running.
