Samsung's 37-inch HP-P3761 flat-panel gas-plasma television offers bright, brilliant color, very high contrast (a ratio of 1,000:1) and high-definition compatibility with HD sources such as an optional DTV set-top receiver. Its native resolution is 1,024 x 1,024 and its rear panel offers twin component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) and a direct-digital DVI input as well as standard (SD) connections.

A built-in analog NTSC tuner and a convenient array of inputs and outputs make set up a snap, and the HP-P3761's widescreen (16:9) display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies, either from DVD or from HDTV broadcasts.

With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the HP-P3761 is an astoundingly slim 3.4 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (the set includes a pedestal stand, pictured). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. You do, however, need to be wary of image burn-in (wherein long-held stationary images leave a permanent impression in the screen).

Samsung DNIe video enhancer (Digital Natural Image engine) enhances all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail, and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower-quality video sources. The HP-P3761's 3D Y/C digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Inputs include the above-mentioned HD component-video and DVI jacks, plus 1 S-video, 2 composite-video, and 1 RF. The set also houses stereo speakers powered by a generous 10 watts per channel. SRS TruSurround XT is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of conveying 5.1-channel surround through 2 speakers, such as those on the TV. TruSurround simulates surround sound through any 2-speaker playback system, including headphones. It's fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 6.1 channels.
